Steve Casalina
1942-2025

Steve C. made Napa his home since 1981. He had 46 Years of continued sobriety and was considered by many to be a walking/talking Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. In addition to his vast knowledge of our beloved text, Steve stayed up to date on all the latest studies which produced statistical data regarding alcoholism and our factual chances of staying free from relapse and subsequently, its slow yet steady death from it. He shared this data at just about every meeting he attended in hopes that we might be listening.

He also shared his early struggles with his affliction at group level. His famous lines were, “I was unemployed, unemployable, walking to meetings in the rain”. This was his truth and he shared it over and again in hopes that we might not feel so alone in our quest and to also let us know that it can be done if we truly want it. He reminded us to get into action early on. And that he did!

Through Steve’s diligent efforts, new groups were established, new meetings were formed, and many people were able to stand a chance in the safe and warm confines of our rooms. Steve cited the work he engaged in with Sam Eddy, Gean Duffy and the countless men and woman who came before him, those who helped save him so that he could help save others.

Let us remember Steve with great clarity, so we can carry on the message and continue to serve, to remain in action and always walk the path he so graciously did.
